Botox/Dysport
Botox and Dysport are both neuromodulator injectable drugs that are made from botulinum toxin type A. This toxin is produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum.
Small doses are injected in your facial muscles to block signals from your nerves to your muscles. This prevents the muscles from contracting thereby preventing the wrinkles created by expression. The end result is a smoother appearance to your skin with diminished fine lines and wrinkles.
Neuromodulators are also used at higher doses for therapeutic uses such as hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating, migraine headaches, overactive bladder and cerebral palsy.
Treatment areas include:
1. Horizontal forehead lines
2. Frown lines (between the eyes)
3. Bunny lines (around the nose)
4. Crow’s feet (around the eyes)
5. Nasolabial folds (between the cheek and nose)
6. Marionette lines (corner of mouth)
7. Lip lines (above the upper lip)
8. Dimpling of the chin
9. Vertical neck lines
10. Masseter muscles (at the jaw for clenching or to slim the jawline)
In general, Botox lasts 3-4 months. There will certainly be patients in which in lasts longer, in that 4-6 month range, or shorter, in that 2-month range. It is also common for first-timers to notice that it may not last as long initially but may last longer after the second treatment.
It depends, and will vary depending on the following….
- The type of wrinkles you’d like to treat
- Your unique aesthetic goals
- The degree of muscle movement in your face
- The number of times you’ve had Botox® in the past
- Your health history
